A Dramatic video posted online this week appears to show a police cruiser striking a suspect’s car during a pursuit and causing the car to slam into a utility pole, narrowly missing a woman pushing a stroller, in Brooklyn.

According to the New York Post, James Maldonado was driving his Honda Civic on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Borough Park on Thursday at about 9:50 a.m. when an officer noticed that the car had a New York State inspection sticker, but no New York registration display and no front license plate, cops said. Maldonado’s car also had a rear Texas plate.

When the officer tried to get a closer look at the car, Maldonado took off, blowing through a red light as he headed east on 60th Street, cops said. Maldonado then made a right turn onto Eighth Avenue and accelerated before making a quick left onto 63rd Street – going the wrong way on a one-way street, according to police. At one point, he drove along the sidewalk, nearly striking a woman and her two dogs, cops said.

Police briefly lost sight of Maldonado before they saw him again at the corner of Fort Hamilton and 62nd Street, where the video footage begins. When the cop spotted Maldonado on the southeast corner of the block, he positioned his car in the northbound lane, cops said.

Then Maldonado and the police car accelerated towards each other with the police slamming into Maldonado but was unable to stop Maldonado as he then continued south on Fort Hamilton Parkway, where he struck several cars before fleeing on foot, cops said.

Maldonado was however apprehended and charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
