Another Accident On Third Mainland Bridge

Accident occurrence is becoming a norm on the Third Mainland bridge.  Motorists are more likely to do between 80 and 140 km/h. while on the bridge especially during the off peak hours when there is less traffic and that's when the ugly happens.

An Accident that occurred yesterday afternoon around the UNILAG Waterfront of the longest bridge in Africa, involving four vehicles, sent two drivers to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to an eyewitness, a Honda car hit a towing vehicle while trying to tow an Audi car that had a flat tyre from the road. Immediately the Honda car hit both vehicles, an oncoming BRT bus also rammed into them.

Wondering how an oncoming vehicle would hit a towing vehicle on a rescue mission an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) told The Nation that the accident would have been avoided had it been the drivers exercised cautions.

“The Audi car had a flat tyre. The towing vehicle had to face vehicles coming from Island before it could properly tow the car. While the towing vehicle driver was about turning back to move the car away, an oncoming Honda car hit them. Immediately it happened, the BRT also hit them from the rear. It took us one and a half hour to free the traffic snarl that was caused by the accident. The car drivers insisted that police must take the report before we could move the vehicles. It was after policemen from Adekunle Police Station came that we were able to start clearing the place,” he said.

The accident resulted in a long traffic snarl that extended to Gbagada Bridge and Car wash.
