Mercedes Benz Accelerates Its Electric Car Production Plan

Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler announced last week that it was accelerating its electric car program after the company revealed that they had failed to cut fleet emissions in Europe for the first time since 2007.

Daimler blamed the increasing preference for sports utility vehicles (SUVs), which tend to be more polluting than sedans as they are  finding it difficult to hit a European target for each new car to produce no more than 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer by 2020.

Therefore the company now wants to focus more on electric cars as it expects its Mercedes-Benz division to bring more than 10 new electric cars to market by 2022 through 10 billion euros ($10.8 billion) of investment, having previously aimed to achieve the target by 2025.

Soon we may no longer hear the roar of Mercedes engine producing horsepower rather the silent whine of an electric motor...I am sad.
